SYMPOSIUM DESCRIPTION & PURPOSE
The 2007 Symposium on Gliomas and Secondary Brain Tumors is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the biology, screening, and diagnosis of gliomas as well as the use of chemotherapy and targeted agents in their management. The symposium will address the pathology and molecular classification of malignant gliomas and its impact on current treatment strategies and trial design. Standards on the use of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy will be presented as well as the goals and direction of future trials. Novel imaging techniques and new delivery methods for radiation therapy will be discussed. The utilization of signal transduction inhibitors and other targeted agents will also be reviewed, including recommendations on their integration into current clinical management strategies. Participants will also be updated on current approaches to the treatment of patients with low-grade gliomas and secondary brain tumors. This symposium will include didactic lectures presented by national opinion leaders who will discuss all facets of research in this area, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions that will allow community oncologists to review emerging data in this field and interact with the faculty.
